The yen slumped against the dollar on Thursday morning in New York and extended the two-month low it first reached the day before. With the Japanese markets closed for a holiday on Thursday, there was a lack of direction during overnight hours. But stronger-than-expected jobs data in the U.S. led to a sharp decline for the Japanese currency against the dollar at around 8:30 a.m. The yen fell as low as to 120.42 at 11:15 a.m. ET.
The yen advanced off of a record low against the euro. The Japanese currency got as low as 163.58 at 2 a.m. but fell rebounded from there. It got as high as 163.12 at 10:30 a.m.
The yen and British pound were choppy on Thursday morning and were close to their overnight level at around noon ET. The yen got as low as 239.54 at 4:15 a.m. and as high as 238.99 at 10:45 a.m. The Japanese market was closed on Thursday.
