Greenback Uncertain Versus Yen, Higher Against Other Majors, Early Tuesday, Tuesday, May 08, 2007 6:24:48 AM

The US dollar saw uncertainty against the Japanese yen, but it posted strong gains versus the rest of majors early Tuesday in New York. This came amid a lack of data from the key counterparts.

German March industrial production fell 0.1% on month but it moved up 4.4% on the year.

Later in the morning, the US wholesale sales data for March will be released, which is likely to gain attraction in the North American session of the day. The British nationwide house price data for April is slated for release at 7:01 pm ET.

The US dollar was quoted at 1.3621 against the euro as of 2:20 am ET on Tuesday. Falling from this high, the pair hit 1.3563 dollars at 6:15 am ET. After that, the pair moved sideways. The recent deals are not confirming the upward journey started by the pair on Friday. It was likely for the pair to test a near-term resistance in level with its high on 27th April, had the Friday`s upward momentum been maintained.

For about an hour until 1:20 am ET on Tuesday, the pound moved sideways against the dollar. The pair then weakened, and coming off 1.9964 the pound collected 1.9918 dollars at 4:40 am ET. Thereafter, the pair changed its direction and at about 6:15 am ET, it fetched 1.9932. After hitting 2.0135 on 18th April, the sterling has largely been trending lower against its US counterpart.

The US dollar strengthened against the yen into the early hours on Tuesday in New York. The pair weakened from 120.01 at 3:40 am ET and it fetched as low as 119.77 before reversing direction an hour later. As of 6:15 am ET, the pair was quoted at 119.89. Largely speaking, the pair has now been testing a near-term support.

The US dollar rallied against the franc early Tuesday in New York. Gaining ground at 2:15 am ET, the pair moved from 1.2103 and it fetched 1.2164 within about four hours. After hitting a two-week high of 1.2192 on last Wednesday, the pair moved slightly downwards, largely.
