Southeast Asian Currencies Mostly Choppy On Monday, Monday, May 07, 2007 10:11:34 AM

The Southeast Asian currencies were mostly choppy in trading on Monday, though the rupiah and Singapore dollar saw weakness against the buck. The currencies moved with little economic news from the area.

The Indonesian rupiah was weak against the dollar in trading on Monday. The currency fell to a mark of 8945.00 in mid-morning action. In general, the rupiah is at a yearly high versus the buck.

The Singapore dollar was choppy against the euro in action on Monday, moving between a high of 2.0566 and a low of 2.0616. Generally, the currency is at a two week high. Against the buck, the Singapore currency edged up to 1.5119 in the mid morning trading. On the whole, the currency is at a two week high.

The Thai baht was choppy versus the euro in mid-morning action on Monday as it moved between a high of 43.9379 and a low of 44.1969. In general, the baht has held in a range since the middle of January. Against the buck, the Thai currency bounced between a high of 32.330 and a low of 32.800. The baht remains within the range of the past 9 weeks.
