Yen Falls Against Other Majors, Wednesday, June 13, 2007 6:30:47 PM

The yen weakened against the other majors on Wednesday in New York after falling sharply at around midnight. The Japanese currency hit a multi-year low against the dollar and sterling, and also fell against the euro. The fall came after the release of revised data showing Japanese industrial output fell 0.2% on the month in April.

The yen remained near a multi-year low against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday evening in New York. The yen moved lower following the release of revised data showing Japanese industrial output fell 0.2% on the month in April. The Japanese currency dropped into the mid-morning before stabilizing for several hours. It fell again in the early afternoon and touched 122.75 at 4:30 p.m., its lowest mark since November of 2002. The pair was at 122.67 at 6 p.m. ET.

The yen dropped against the pound throughout the day on Wednesday in New York and reached a multi-year low. The Japanese currency plunged at around midnight ET and added further losses over the next three hours. It bounced back slightly, but gave back those gains with a late-morning slump. The yen lost further in the afternoon and touched a multi-year low of 242.19 at 4 p.m. ET. The pair was at 241.86 at 6 p.m. ET.

The yen touched a six-day low against the euro on Wednesday in New York. The Japanese currency dropped in overnight hours off of a monthly high. It gained in the early morning but fell back even further over the next few hours. The yen dropped sharply again in the mid-afternoon and touched as low as 163.37 at 4:45 p.m. ET. The pair was at 163.21 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
