Euro Weak Overall Against Counterparts On Wednesday, Tuesday, June 12, 2007 2:05:01 PM

The euro slipped against its major counterparts in trading on Tuesday afternoon in New York. The euro dropped as the Europe Monster Employment Index numbers were released for May.

The euro was weak against the dollar in trading on Tuesday afternoon. The currency dropped to a mark of 1.3326 in the late morning and remained at that mark into the afternoon. On the whole, the currency is at a two month low versus the buck.

In trading against the British sterling, the euro saw weakness though trading on Tuesday. By the mid afternoon, the currency had a steady decline that took it to a mark of 0.6739. The euro is at its lowest point against the pound since the end of February.

Versus the yen, the euro saw some weakness in trading on Tuesday afternoon. The European currency edged down to a mark of 162.22 as action progressed. In general, the currency is at a monthly low against the Japanese currency.

The Monster Employment Index for Europe gained 10 points in May to touch a reading of 143, marking the fourth straight month of increase. The climb in the index in May was driven by strong demand for workers in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and the UK. The index surged 23% on an annual basis, jumping 27 points from the reading of 116 in May last year.
