Japanese Yen Mixed On Tuesday Afternoon Against Counterparts, Tuesday, June 19, 2007 2:43:08 PM

The Japanese yen was mixed against its counterparts in trading on Tuesday afternoon in New York. The currency moved as Japanese department store sales and crude steel production numbers were released.

The yen showed strength against the buck in trading on Tuesday. As action moved into the afternoon, the currency advanced to a mark of 123.37. Overall, the Japanese currency is coming up slightly off a recent multi-year low against the dollar.

The Japanese currency was choppy against the British currency in trading on Tuesday. As action moved into the mid afternoon, the yen bounced between a low of 245.49 and a high of 245.09. On the whole, the Japanese yen is at a multi-year low against the sterling.

Versus the yen, the euro saw little movement on Tuesday. By the mid afternoon trading, the European currency had moved between a high of 166.08 and a low of 165.34. In general, the euro remains near a multi-year high against its Japanese counterpart.

Japanese department store sales slid 0.4% on year to 599.3 billion yen in May. Meanwhile, Japan crude steel production grew 2.6% annually in May. In April, crude steel output improved 4.1%.
