Russian Rouble And Polish Zloty Higher Versus Dollar, Hungarian Forint Lower, Monday, June 18, 2007 8:52:56 AM

The Eastern European currencies experienced mixed results versus the greenback Monday morning in New York. The Russian rouble and Polish zloty gained ground against its American counterpart. Meanwhile, the Hungarian forint retreated slightly versus the buck. Traders mulled government news from Hungary and Poland.

The Hungarian forint edged lower versus the American dollar Monday morning in New York. The Hungarian currency experienced mostly choppy trading with the greenback during the early-to-mid morning before sliding around 8 am ET. At 8:30, the forint fetched a mark of 186.530 against its American counterpart. This is compared to an intraday high of 185.9500 at 2:40 am and an intraday low of 186.7000 at 4:20 am. Traders considered news late Friday that Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany was reshuffling his government.

The Russian rouble ticked higher against the greenback Monday morning in New York. The Russian currency traded with uncertainty against its American counterpart in the early morning before advancing around 5:30 am ET. At 8:35 am, the rouble traded at a mark of 25.9400 against the buck. This is compared to an intraday high of 25.9320 at 7:50 am and intraday low of 25.9610 at 2:20 am.

The Polish zloty advanced versus the American dollar Monday morning in New York. The Polish currency experienced mostly choppy trading during the morning until moving higher around 8:20 am ET. At 8:41 am, the zloty fetched a mark of 2.8297 against its American counterpart. This is compared to an intraday high of 2.8285 at 2:40 am and an intraday low of 2.8362 at 3:30 am. Traders mulled news that Poland told the European Union that it would not accept reformed EU voting rules.
